<p>A non-contacting sealing device for a bearing includes a labyrinth seal with a static shut-off device. The non-contacting sealing, or isolator, device includes stator, a rotor and the static shut-office device, which includes at least one deformable toroidal member adjacent to the stator surface and adjacent to the rotor surface. The deformable toroidal member engages both the stator surface and the rotor surface when the rotor is static and disengages at least one of the stator surface and the rotor surface when the rotor is operational. The seal may be an integral part of the bearing, or a substantially attachable member to a bearing.</p> |
