Either a low or a high heat output may be obtained from a non-atmospheric gas burner by the operation of a solenoid 11 which adjusts both air and gas supplies to the burner by means of a conical air valve 12 co-operating with a valve seat 28 in an apertured partition 26 of the casing, and a valve needle 24 in a gas nozzle 20. In the high output position illustrated, a fan 9 driven by electric motor 1 conveys air past the valve cone 12 where the air is made more turbulent by helical grooves in a collar 31 on the cone, and a sping 27 holds the valve needle 24 in its open position against an adjustment screw 29. On de-energization of the solenoid 11, the cone and needle are moved by spring 14, reducing the gas flow and permitting air to flow only through apertures 22 in a less turbulent manner, maintaining the air-gas proportion and the length of flame substantially constant. An igniter 15 and flame detector 16 are also provided. The fuel may be natural gas.</p> |
