The method involves determining viscosity of fresh lubricant, where continuous viscosity measurements of the lubricant are carried out after determining the viscosity of the fresh lubricant. The determined values of the continuous viscosity measurements are compared with stored values. An acoustic or visual alarming signal is released by achieving a predetermined viscosity change. An independent claim is included for a device for determining a time point for changing a lubricant of a fuel-driven internal combustion engine.
