PURPOSE: A method for controlling a washing machine and a motor is provided to diagnose a disorder of armature winding or a magnet of a motor by analyzing frequency contents of the motor. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling a washing machine is as follows. A motor of a washing machine is rotated(708). Higher harmonic wave is applied to the motor(712). A condition of the motor is diagnosed by analyzing output frequency contents. The higher harmonic wave applied to the motor is higher than operating frequency.
