A power supply on a tractor-trailer vehicle includes two batteries both mounted on the tractor. Loads on the tractor are supplied by a first battery, while loads on the trailer are energized by both batteries connected in series. The second battery is charged from the first through an inverter and rectifier, and the first battery is itself charged from the generator of the tractor. In the circuit shown, generator 11, 13 connected in parallel with a voltage regulator 12 to charge the first battery 13 which is connected in series with the second battery 25 and also charges it through an inverter-rectifier 26. Whenever the stop lamps 15, sidelamps 17 or indicators 21, 22 on the tractor are switched on, a corresponding one of a series of relays 41, 42, 43, 44 is also energized to close contacts 41a, 42a, 43a or 44a in lines leading from the tractor to the trailer by way of connections such as 31, 31a. Hence the equivalent lights on the trailer are supplied from the two batteries in series. |
