Dietary supplement and method for the treatment and prevention of digestive tract ulcers in equines and other animals

Disclosed is a dietary supplement for use in treating and/or inhibiting digestive tract ulcers, comprising: a polar lipid supplement that has been isolated from its natural source which strengthens the mucous gut membrane lining the inside wall of the stomach; a soluble fiber that has been isolated from its natural origin which slows the passage of foodstuffs ingested together with the dietary supplement through the stomach, said soluble fiber being derived from at least one ingredient selected from the group consisting of oats, barley, and soybeans; and one or more surfactant amino acids which increase the integrity of digestive tract membranes. Also disclosed is the use of the above dietary supplement for treating and/or inhibiting digestive tract ulcers in horses and other non-human animals.
