<p>The invention relates to a fastening system (1) and a method for fitting insulating panels (2). The fastening system (1) comprises a spreading element (3) with a spreading element head (4) and a spreading element shank (5) and also a dowel (6) with a pressure plate (7) and an adjoining dowel shank (8). A cutting edge (40) for cutting through the connection between the pressure plate (7) and the dowel shank (8) is arranged at the end of the spreading element head (4) that is the lower end in the direction of insertion in such a way that, when the spreading element (3) is introduced completely into the dowel shank (8), the connection between the pressure plate (7) and the dowel shank (8) is cut through. In a first alternative embodiment, a fastening system (100) and a method are described, wherein two latching elements (810, 820), which interact with a corresponding latching device (710) on the pressure plate (700), are provided on the dowel shank (800). In a second alternative embodiment, a region (911) which can be shortened in its length and is formed as a film hinge is arranged at the end towards the pressure plate (711).
