PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for sensing vehicle rear obstacle through ultrasonic wave are provided to prevent wrong operation of the apparatus caused by noise and quickly alert. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for sensing vehicle rear obstacle through ultrasonic wave comprises: a transmitter(201) which generates ultrasonic wave pulse at a uniform frequency; a ultrasonic pulse receiver(203) which receives the ultrasonic wave reflected from the obstacle; a received pulse counter(409) which counts pulse received from the ultrasonic pulse receiver; and a timer(411) which activates the received pulse counter for a specific preset time.
