METHOD FOR INITIATING LOCAL EXPLOSION OF CARBON NANOTUBES, PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING A SYSTEM THEREFOR AND A SYSTEM FOR INITIATING LOCAL EXPLOSION OF CARBON NANOTUBES

The invention relates to nanostructures and methods for initiating a local explosion and can be applied in micro and nanoelectronics for making integrated circuits and microelectromechanical systems. According to the first invention embodiment a method for initiating a local explosion of carbon nanotubes provides affecting electric current thereon in the presence of an oxidizer. According to the second invention embodiment a method for initiating a local explosion of carbon nanotubes provides passing electric current via carbon nanotubes disposed in an interelectrode space in the presence of an oxidizer. The system for initiating a local explosion used in said embodiments can be manufactured by forming electrodes and carbon nanotubes on a dielectric substrate spaced therebetween adapted to pass electric current through them. The system for initiating a local explosion comprises a dielectric substrate with electrodes disposed thereon and connected to the power source, and the carbon nanotubes arranged between the electrodes.
