<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer performing printing by directly reading image data photographed by a digital cameral or the like which processes print data including a plurality of images in the main scanning direction as in the case of index print with a limited memory capacity. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Line data for one line are read from image data obtained by reading an original image data file of one of a plurality of images to be printed by one time main scanning and restoring the read original image data file, subjected to prescribed image processing and copied to a band buffer. This processing is repeated for all of the plurality of images to be printed by one time main scanning and when data of all images for that line are collected in the band buffer, similar processing is repeated for the next line, and when data of the number of lines required for one band are collected for all images, these data are printed.
