PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the cooling apparatus of a thick steel plate having a structure by which the damage of the cooling system is effectively evaded even when an upward camber is caused in the middle of rolling. SOLUTION: The cooling apparatus which is installed on the inlet and/or the outlet side of a plate mill and provided with a cooling header for jetting cooling water to a material to be rolled is arranged so as to be movable to approach and retreat from the plate mill.
