<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for partitioning a storage space in a storage medium of a video recording system or a multimedia system into a plurality of discrete partitions. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Each of the discrete partitions of the storage medium is allocated to a different user of the video recording system or application of the multimedia system. Furthermore, the system is designed to allocate an amount of storage space to each partition in order to eliminate exclusive use of the storage space by only one user or application.
