<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection element surely restricted in a distance between a base plate and an insulating cover plate, reduced in variation in thickness and having excellent dimensional stability. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the protective element, a low-melting point metallic body 2 is disposed between a plurality of electrodes 4 and 5 formed on a base plate 1, and a current is intercepted when the metallic body 2 is fused. An insulating cover plate 13 is disposed so as to face the base plate 1. The cover plate 13 is in contact with leads 8, 9, 10 and 11 without resin 14 being interposed, and accordingly, these leads 8, 9, 10 and 11 serve as spacers that determine the distance between the base plate 1 and the cover plate 13.
