1,178,160. Steam traps. K. FUJIWARA. 21 April, 1967 [22 April, 1966], No. 18581/67. Heading F4U. A thermodynamically actuated or " floating disc " type of steam trap includes a bimetal ring arranged so that under the influence of cooling caused by air binding it co-operates with a fixed conical surface to raise the valve disc. As illustrated, the valve disc 2 is located in a pressure chamber P connecting inlet and outlet chambers A and B, and a broken bimetal ring 5 which expands when cooled, rests on a surface N of which the inner part is conical and the outer part plane. When the ring 5 is fully cooled to raise the disc to the position shown, it rests on the plane portion of the surface N so that it cannot be depressed by the weight of the disc 2. Upon the passage of steam, the ring contracts and descends below the valve disc seats D and E to allow the resumption of normal operation. In other embodiments, Figs. 4-12 (not shown), the conical surface may be of opposite sense and the ring may contract on cooling, and the conical surface and ring may be located between the two valve seats.
|
