1,241,793. Printing-apparatus. COLORFLO Ltd. 15 July, 1968 [21 July, 1967], No. 33735/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Division F1] Apparatus for feeding a liquid such as ink through an intaglio plate, not shown, and into the engraved recesses therein comprises a piston-rod 12 provided with a piston 8, a cylinder 2 provided with a chamber 4 within which the piston is adapted to operate, means arranged to supply ink from an opening 25 in a support 14 through a bore 24 within the rod 12 to the chamber 4 via inlet openings 32 in an auxiliary piston 28, and a valve 34 designed to be opened on application of printing pressure so as to allow the flow of ink through a passage 6 from the chamber 4 to the said recesses. In use printing pressure is applied to members 12, 14 and the pressure is transmitted via a spring 20 to the cylinder 2. As the piston 8 is lowered, ink first flows from chamber 4 into bore 24 but when the piston covers the openings 32 the pressure of ink in the chamber acts on the tapered nose 42 of the piston 28 and opens the passage 6. When sufficient ink has been supplied the valve 34 is lifted from its seat. When the printing pressure is released the valve 34 again closes the passage 6 and subsequently the spring 20 raises the piston 8. The spring 20 may be replaced by hydraulic means. A plurality of such devices may be provided for a single plate. Differently coloured inks may be supplied to the same or different regions of an intaglio design. The liquid may be a paint, adhesive, or thermoplastic material instead of an ink.
|
