PROCESS FOR THE SOLUBILIZATION OF AROMATIC POLYMER MATERIALS VIA THE USE OF A BIOSOLVENT, AND APPLICATION TO THE TREATMENT OF OIL SPILLS

One subject of the invention is the use of a biosolvent for dissolving a solid aromatic polymer material, such as expanded polystyrene (EPS) or materials comprising bitumen such as an asphalt shingle. The biosolvent or biodiesel comprises an alkyl ester resulting from an esterification of an oil of plant and/or animal origin. The invention also relates to a process for dissolving the aromatic polymer material that comprises bringing the material into contact with the biosolvent, bringing about the dissolution of the aromatic polymer material and the formation of a mixture comprising the dissolved aromatic polymer material and the biosolvent. This mixture may be used as a fuel. The invention also relates to a process for recycling and reusing the EPS by dissolving the EPS in the biosolvent. The invention also relates to the use of the biosolvent in combination with EPS, for the clean up of water contaminated by a discharge of hydrocarbons, and a process for the clean up of oil spills.
