PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve recording and reproducing performance when performing multiplex recording on a hologram recording medium.

SOLUTION: Recording and reproducing on a hologram page is performed by using reference light of light intensity modulation patterns having no correlation with one another. This satisfies the fundamental requirements for multiplex recording on a hologram page. In addition, by applying phase modulation to the reference light to give a predetermined phase pattern, the correlation between the light intensity and the phase distribution can be suppressed on the recording medium.
