PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cation type polymer suitable as a raw material of functional materials. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the high-purity cation type polymer includes: adding an inorganic salt that is removable by ion exchange membrane electrodialysis into a cation type polymer solution containing a succinimide derivative represented by general formula (I) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>, which may be the same or different, are each 1-3C alkyl); and subjecting this solution to ion exchange membrane electrodialysis to remove the succinimide derivative.
