<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical anisotropic film. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is a method for producing an optical anisotropic film having a twisted spiral structure, and comprises a step (1) of heating a liquid crystal composition comprising at least one optically active compound that undergoes a change in twisting force upon exposure to light to a temperature of T<SB>1</SB>and a step (2) of radiating polarized light to the liquid crystal composition at a temperature of T<SB>2</SB>, wherein T<SB>1</SB>and T<SB>2</SB>satisfy inequality (XI) T<SB>NI</SB><T<SB>1</SB><150°C and inequality (XII) T<SB>CN</SB><T<SB>2</SB><T<SB>NI</SB>, respectively. In the inequalities, T<SB>NI</SB>represents a temperature at which the liquid crystal composition undergoes phase transition from a cholesteric phase to an isotropic phase; and T<SB>CN</SB>represents a temperature at which the liquid crystal composition undergoes phase transition from a crystal phase to a cholestenic phase.
