PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of creases in a pin boss part in forging of a piston material. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the piston material (1) made of an aluminum alloy in which the pin boss part is provided in a protruding manner on the reverse side of a land part, includes a preliminary molding step molding a preliminary molding article (3) by performing a cold upsetting process on a primary blank (2) at 15% or more of upsetting rate; a heat treatment step recrystallizing the preliminary molding article (3) by applying heat; and a main molding step molding the piston material (1) by performing a hot forging process on the preliminary molding article (3) after heat treatment, and molding to erect the pin boss part from the land part.
