The invention relates to a method for the spatial representation of a scene or an object, in which spatial image section data a(i, j, t) about a scene or an object are simultaneously made visible at each time point (t), on a grid (1) of image elements x(i, j) with rows (i) and columns (j), an illuminating element (2) being associated with the grid (1) of image elements x(i, j), said elements representing, at each time point (t), a defined illuminating pattern formed essentially of illuminating and non-illuminating partial surfaces. The method is characterised in that to at least two different time points t1 and t2, at least two different illuminating patterns are represented such that to each time point (t), based on the positions of the illuminating and the non-illuminating partial surfaces on the illuminating element (2) and the positions of the image elements x(i, j) for the light transmitted by the image elements x(i, j), propagation directions are predefined, and the image elements x(i, j) of said light modulate with the spatial image section data a(i, j, t) about the scene or the object such that a spatial impression is created.
