PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying water capable of effectively decreasing the concentration of trapped molecules in water and thereby obtaining purified water including less trapped molecules. SOLUTION: The method includes bringing a trapping agent containing a metal ion capable of planar tetra-coordination or octahedral coordination and a compound expressed by general formula (I) [one of R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, and R<SP>4</SP>: an R<SP>y</SP>at the meta- or para-position of R<SP>x</SP>; R<SP>x</SP>, R<SP>y</SP>: a heterocyclic substituent shown below; R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, and R<SP>5</SP>other than R<SP>y</SP>: a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms or a sulfonic acid group, but they are not hydrogen atoms at the same time; R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP>: a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; A: a five-membered or six-membered heterocyclic group containing at least one nitrogen atom] into contact with water containing the trapped molecules under conditions that the pH value is within 3 to 12, and removing a sediment produced by the contact and containing the trapped molecules out of the water, wherein C<SB>6</SB>R<SP>1</SP>(R<SP>2</SP>)(R<SP>3</SP>)(R<SP>4</SP>)(R<SP>5</SP>)...
