<p>Manufacture of reinforced rubber strip for conveyor belts, power transmission belts, etc. by extrusion of a thick walled rubber or plastic tube incorporating within the walls a series of axially aligned reinforcing cables and subsequently slitting and opening out the tubing to form a flat strip. Pref. additional reinforcement may be provided by helical lay-up of additional cables on the inside or outside of the tube and sheathing these turns with an additional layer of rubber or plastic. Pref. close pitched helical turns are used, e.g. spaced by the thickness of the cable. Pref. the reinforced strip is coated with an antiadhesive material prior to wind-up from the slitting and spreading stations. Belting reinforced with metal, textile or synthetic filaments or cables. Cheap and simple process for ensuring parallel alignment of the axially laid reinforcement required for heavy duty belting.</p> |
