The invention relates to a composition comprising materials based on absorbent vegetable material, containing a pre-determined quantity of at least one organic acid and/or a pre-determined quantity of at least one mineral acid, which composition produces inappetence in herbivorous and omnivorous animals and is innocuous when used as litter for said animals. The composition is prepared by mixing absorbent vegetable materials with one or more weak acids and can take the form of particles and/or granules and/or granulated cubes.
