PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reversion of gradation while displaying gradation of the number of sub-fields or more. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal element of a pixel 50 changes transmittance in response to an application voltage, and changes response time in accordance with a temperature. A light source 500 irradiates the pixel 50 with light. A scanning line drive circuit 100 and a data line drive circuit 200 supply one of an on-voltage indicating lighting and an off-voltage indicating putting out lights to the pixel 50. A temperature sensor 400 measures a temperature. A control circuit 300 controls the length of one sub-field based on the temperature, and controls the intensity of light of the light source 500.
