<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a liquid crystal display device capable of restoring deteriorated image quality due to dot defect or line defect, increasing the number of pixels without increasing the number of data lines and gate lines, achieving a wide viewing angle, and reducing the voltage level of an output signal of a data line driver upon employing an H/V inversion system. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A pixel array has a plurality of pixel areas arranged in row and column directions, and data signals are applied to the pixel areas through the data lines, the pixel arrays are formed on the first surface of a first transparent substrate and the first surface of a second transparent substrate, respectively. The data lines are arranged in one of the row and column directions, the gate lines are arranged in the other of the row and column directions, and the respective pixel areas on the first transparent substrate are shifted from the respective pixel areas on the second transparent substrate in a direction along the gate line by half the width of the pixel area along the gate line.
