1,122,868. Refrigerating. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. 27 July, 1966 [28 July, 1965], No. 33838/66. Heading F4H. A cryostat comprises a casing 10, an inner container 26 and a double-walled jacket 32, the bottom of which is connected to the top of container 26 by pipes 28 and the top of which is connected to a discharge pipe 36. Cryogenic liquid, e.g. helium, is supplied to the container 26 through tube 62 and helium vapour is discharged via jacket 32 which thus acts as a heat shield. Insulation, e.g. a superinsulation, is provided between the jacket and casing. A metallic gauge or sheet 31 is provided in the jacket to ensure good axial distribution of cold and is located by aligned grooves 68 in the inner and outer walls of the jacket. Ribs 66 are provided on the casing and container and the bottom of the latter is enclosed by a wall 40 which contains a chamber 44 for an absorbent, the walls of the chamber having openings 46. The casing is evacuated through a connection 56 and has a removable lid 14. A substantially identical embodiment is described (Fig. 3 not shown) in which the component parts of the cryostat are readily disconnectable, details of the connections therebetween being illustrated in Figs. 5 to 10 (not shown).
|
