PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethanol in high efficiency. SOLUTION: The method of producing ethanol includes a step of yielding an aqueous saccharide solution through saccharification of cellulose with an enzyme in water, a step of condensing the aqueous saccharide solution, and a step of yielding an aqueous ethanol solution by fermenting the saccharide in the condensed aqueous saccharide solution into ethanol, wherein the step of condensing the aqueous saccharide solution is performed through a pervaporation treatment by using a water separation membrane comprising polypyrrole doped with a sulfonate ion.
