<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vinyl-based biomass-based polymer comprising 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) as a raw material. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A polymer compound represented by general formula (1) is provided, wherein R<SB>1</SB>represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group which may have an alkoxy group, a cycloalkyl group which may have an alkoxy group, an acyl group which may have an alkoxy group, an aralkyl group which may have an alkoxy group, a silyl group, or a monohydric polyethylene glycol, or a derivative thereof; R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>each represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a 1-5C alkyl group; R<SB>4</SB>and R<SB>5</SB>each represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group which may have an alkoxy group, an aryl group which may have an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an acyloxy group or a heterocyclic group; p is an integer of ≥1; q is an integer of ≥0; and n is an integer of ≥2. The monomer unit containing a furan ring may include two or more kinds thereof, and the monomer unit containing R<SB>2</SB>to R<SB>5</SB>may include two or more kinds thereof.
