<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-purity α-hydroxy-ω-glycidyl ether in which the residual amount of an α,ω-alkane diol of a raw material is 5% or less and the content of α-hydroxy-ω-glycidyl ether is 70% or more. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing a high-purity α-hydroxy-ω-glycidyl ether comprises the following steps: to a solution formed by dissolving an α,ω-alkane diol in 1-10 times mol of epihalohydrin, 0.9-1.5 mol of an alkali metal hydroxide aqueous solution per 1 mol of the α,ω-alkane diol in the solution is gradually supplied; an azeotropic mixture of water and epihalohydrin is distilled from a reaction system at a temperature of 25-90°C under pressure (absolute pressure) of 3-40 kPa; the concentrated and separated epihalohydrin is circulated into a reaction system; the feeding and/or distillation condition of the alkali metal hydroxide is adjusted to maintain the system internal water content of the reaction system at 2.0 wt.% or less; and the system internal water content is controlled by controlling the reaction liquid temperature.
