PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-displaying device and a backlight-controlling circuit which each prevent a person from being dazzled even when a screen suddenly becomes bright. SOLUTION: The image-displaying device 1 includes: a backlight 14; a display device 16 which modulates illumination light from the backlight 14, according to video signals, to display an image; a light quantity computing part 12 which increases or decreases the light quantity of the backlight 14 in accordance with the intensity of the brightness of the displayed image based on the video signals; and so on. The light quantity computing part 12 determines the light quantity of the backlight 14 so that the degree of the increase of the illumination light from the backlight 14 may be restrained on the basis of an alleviation function for restraining the degree of the increase of the illumination light which corresponds to the increase of the brightness of the displayed image based on the video signals.
