<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a confocal optical device, having a structure in which the dimension in radial direction is suppressed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The confocal optical device 1 includes an optical fiber cable 3, whose end surface is used as a confocal pinhole and an optical scanner 8. The optical scanner includes: a first reflecting part (contact surface) reflecting light emitted from the optical fiber cable 3; a deflecting-surface drive part 13 which includes a scanning mirror rotated about an axis parallel to a first direction x parallel to the optical path of the light emitted from the optical fiber cable and an axis which is parallel to a second direction y perpendicular to the first direction x and which changes the reflecting direction of the light from the first reflecting part in the scanning mirror through rotation; and a second reflecting part (contact surface) reflecting the light reflected from the scanning mirror toward an objective optical system 5.
