<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator capable of further safely preventing a tread forced up by nipping an object between the tread and a riser from colliding with comb teeth. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A rising escalator 10a has a step 17 having the tread 12 for placing a passenger and the riser 11 arranged in a lower stage side end part of the tread 12, and has an object detecting part for detecting that the object exists in a space 50 regulated by tread 12, the riser 11 of the upper stage side step 17 of its tread 12 and a vertical plane to the tread 12 by passing through an upper side end part of its riser 11, and a notifying means for notifying when the object detecting part detects the object.
