<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fare adjustment device for verifying a boarding place and calculating a fare by means of an arbitrary IC card carried by a passenger without using a numbered ticket. <P>SOLUTION: When a recording medium carried by the passenger is held over the card R/W 21 of a boarding processor 2 at boarding, the first identifier of the recording medium is read, paired with present position data, and stored in the boarding DB 36 of an alighting processor 3. When the recording medium carried by the passenger is held over the card R/W 31 of the alighting processor at alighting, the first identifier of the recording medium is read. Then, boarding place data stored with the read first identifier is read in reference to the boarding DB 36. The route traveled is determined based on the read boarding place data and the present position, thereby calculating the fare for the route traveled.
