<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressor, in which a thermal insulation effect in a suction pipe is increased and a highly efficient compressing operation is enabled. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This compressor includes: a compression mechanism 20 formed of a suction chamber 9 for sucking a refrigerant between a fixed member 27 and a movable member 24 and a compression chamber 26 for compressing the refrigerant which communicates with the suction chamber 9; a motor part 14 for driving the movable member 24; and a container 33 for storing the compression mechanism 20 and the motor part 14. A recess 27a extending from the outside of the fixed member 27 to the suction chamber 9 is formed in the fixed member 27. A suction pipe 6 which is smaller in diameter than the recess 27a and which allows the refrigerant to be sucked into the suction chamber 9 is disposed in the recess 27a. A space 36 is formed between the outer peripheral surface of the suction pipe 6 excluding near the end 6a of the suction pipe 6 on the suction chamber 9 side and the inner peripheral surface of the recess 27a.
