A method of separating components out of a eutectic salt solution is provided. The eutectic freezing temperature of the solution is initially determined. Hereafter a second, higher eutectic freezing temperature achievable by adding a compound, such as an electrolyte of acid, to the solution is determined and the compound added to the solution. The solution is then cooled to the second temperature to cause ice to form and a salt to precipitate out of the solution, and these recovered.
