A stuffer-box 4 crimper comprises a slot 12 locally weakening a wall 5 so that it is deflected according to the magnitude of stuffing pressure applied to yarn forced into the crimping chamber by feed rolls 1, 2. A strain gauge 13 detects the deflections and thereby produces continuous measurement of such pressure in the form of electrical signals which are compared with a reference value corresponding to a desired pressure and the difference, amplified in a transmission system 14, controls the energisation of a solenoid 15. The resultant displacement of a permanent magnet 16 turns a hinged door 10 in a direction to vary correctively the counterpressure effect thereof and thereby maintain or restore the stuffing pressure to the desired value.</p> |
