PURPOSE: An LCD display and a driving method thereof are provided to decrease the very bright whole brightness of an image through the limit of an APL by analyzing an APL(Average Picture Level) of an input image. CONSTITUTION: A luminance extracting unit(32) separates a luminance and a color difference information from an input image. An UI(User Interface) receives an limit APL. An APL restriction unit(33) calculates the average APL of the input image based on a luminance from the luminance extracting unit. The APL restriction unit adjusts the average APL by comparing the average APL with the limit APL. The APL restriction unit modulates the luminance of the input image. The APL restriction unit changes the modulated luminance and color difference information into RGB data. A driving circuit displays RGB data from the APL restriction unit to an LCD panel. |
