PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire adapted to improve side cut resistance without unduly raising carcass total strength. SOLUTION: In the pneumatic radial tire formed by using as a skeleton a carcass 2 composed of a radial cord layer extending in a toroidal shape over a pair of right and left bead sections 11, and by successively laminating and arranging a belt 3 and a tread 5 radially outside a crown section of the carcass 2, the carcass 2 is a two-ply laminate structure; and the value of product D1×Ec1 of a total digitex D1 per cord and a thread count Ecl per unit width in the cords of a carcass ply 2a radially inside the crown section 12 is greater than the value of product D2×Ec2 of a total digitex D2 per cord and a thread count Ec2 per unit width in the cords of a carcass ply 2b radially outside the crown section 12.
