PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a derailment detecting device for an elevator capable of surely detecting the fact that the counterweight of the elevator has derailed during automatic inspection operation, using a simple structure. SOLUTION: This derailment detecting device is provided with a structure, having the counterweight surely colliding with an elevator car or surrounding apparatus in a tower when the automatic inspection operation is performed in a condition with the counterweight derailed upon an earthquake. When an abnormal current of a motor is detected by an abnormality detecting device during the automatic inspection operation, the elevator is stopped or is subjected to controlled operation.
