PURPOSE: A transmission control apparatus of an automatic transmission and a method of the same are provided to enhance a hydraulic pressure of a combining side clutch by tipping in during a downshift of a power off manual, and to reduce a run-up of a closing period for improving a transmission quality. CONSTITUTION: A transmission control apparatus of an automatic transmission comprises: a position sensor for a throttle valve(10) outputting an opening value by sensing a position of the throttle valve; and a transmission control unit(30) correcting a duty value of a hydraulic control based on the opening value of the throttle valve and a table value of a pre-saved transmission step when a downshift of a power off manual is decided as a tip-in due to an intention of an acceleration of a driver.
