PURPOSE: A split barrel sampler for the soft ground, and a standard penetration test using the same provide high quality data suitable for a design and construction. CONSTITUTION: A split barrel sampler for the soft ground comprises a front shoe(10), a split barrel(11), and a connector head(12). The external diameter of the front shoe is bigger than the split barrel to minimize frictional resistance. Wings are integrally formed on the outer surface of the front shoe. The split barrel is extended to the top of the front shoe, and formed in a cylindrical shape. The external diameter of the split barrel is smaller than the front shoe, and the internal diameter of the split barrel is bigger than the front shoe. The connector head is separably screwed to the top of the split barrel.
