摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of a luminance inversion phenomenon in an image display region on a high luminance side when a TN (Twisted Nematic) type liquid crystal panel is viewed from an oblique direction in a liquid crystal image display using the TN type liquid crystal panel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A luminance correspondence relationship for making an input luminance level correspond to a display luminance level of each pixel of the liquid crystal panel is memorized in a liquid crystal television being the liquid crystal image display. In the liquid crystal television, by the luminance correspondence relationship, an upper limit display luminance level is settled as a display luminance level and the maximum input luminance level that the input luminance level can adopt is made to correspond to the upper limit display luminance level. The upper limit display luminance level is a display luminance level of nearly 90% of the maximum display luminance level which can be output and also is the critical display luminance level of whether the luminance inversion phenomenon is generated when the liquid crystal panel is viewed from a 45° oblique direction. In the liquid crystal television, a display luminance level of each pixel of the liquid crystal panel is controlled in the range lower than the upper display luminance level according to the luminance correspondence relationship.
