PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow automatic photographing to be always made in an excellent state. SOLUTION: When a face image is detected in a smile photographing mode, focus adjustment and exposure adjustment are made after stabilization of the face image position so as to put an imaging device in a smile waiting state by setting the imaging parameters related to the focus and exposure in the imaging part (ST52, ST53, and ST54). It is determined that state changes occur in a subject when changes occur in the smile waiting state, that is, a size change of a target face image, disappearance and a change of the target face image, a brightness change of the imaged image, or zoom operation and exposure adjustment or the like by a user. Then, resetting the imaging parameters related to the focus and exposure is made. In this case, this resetting is advised to the subject side and the photographer side (ST56), and again, it is returned to detection processing of the face image. In the smile waiting state, it is determined whether the face image is a smiling face. When it is a smiling face, photographing is made, and after that, it is returned to the smile waiting state (ST55, ST57).
