PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic carrier and a two-component developer superior in developability and capable of forming high-quality images without image defects for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The magnetic carrier comprises magnetic carrier particles containing at least porous magnetic core particles and a resin and is characterized in that: in a reflected electron image of the magnetic carrier particle on a projection screen photographed by a scanning electron microscope at an acceleration voltage of 2.0 kV, the area of a resin portion is 92.0 to 99.5% on an area basis with respect to the projection plane of the magnetic carrier particle; and the intensity of an electric field just prior to breakdown of the porous magnetic core particles is 300 to 1,500 V/cm.
