PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a fluorine-containing polymer with a large molecular weight, by using a highly water-soluble, highly volatile surfactant. SOLUTION: The preparation method of the fluorine-containing polymer comprises a polymerization step of preparing the fluorine-containing polymer in the presence of one or more fluoroether carboxylic acids represented by formula (I): CF<SB>3</SB>-(CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>m</SB>-O-(CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)CF<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>n</SB>-CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)COOX, formula (II): CF<SB>3</SB>-(CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>m</SB>-O-(CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)CF<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>n</SB>-CHFCF<SB>2</SB>COOX and formula (III): CF<SB>3</SB>-(CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>m</SB>-O-(CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)CF<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>n</SB>-CH<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>COOX (wherein m is an integer of 0-4; n is an integer of 0-2; and X is a hydrogen atom, an ammonium group or an alkali metal atom).
