<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of improving the efficiency of read work without performing unneeded re-read processing or image confirmation when an error is detected. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the image reader 200, whether or not to notify a PC 214 of an error when detecting a multiple transmission error or a JAM error on an operation panel is set beforehand. Then, when setting for not notifying the error when detecting the error is performed, the transmission of image data to the PC 214 is put on hold until the discharge of an original is detected by a paper discharge sensor.
