<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new chiral iridium aqua complex which has good storage stability, can be easily produced, and can achieve a high yield and high stereoselectivity in an asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reaction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The chiral iridium aqua complex is represented by formula (1A) (wherein R<SP>a</SP>, R<SP>b</SP>, R<SP>c</SP>, R<SP>d</SP>and R<SP>e</SP>may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, an ethyl group or a phenyl group; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may be the same or different and each represents an optionally substituted aryl group, or R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may combine together to form an optionally substituted 3-4C linear alkylene group which forms a ring; R<SP>3</SP>represents an optionally substituted alkylsulfonyl group or an optionally substituted arylsulfonyl group; R<SP>4</SP>represents a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted alkylsulfonyl group or an optionally substituted arylsulfonyl group).
