A method for setting base station status, including that: a second timer is set; a base station is closed, if a message sent by a User Equipment (UE) isn't received during the T2 prescribed by the second timer; and the UEs include the UEs which can access the base station and the UEs in service limited status. The embodiment of the current invention also provides a base station. It would reduce the power consumption of the base station and improve the user experience by using the method for setting base station status and base station supplied by the embodiment of the current invention.
