<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially producing α-bromomethyl acrylate, and to commercially provide the α-bromomethyl acrylate in a yield higher than that in a conventional method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The α-bromomethyl acrylate can be commercially be provided in a yield higher than that in a conventional method through the discovery that the polymerization of the α-bromomethyl acrylate is suppressed by carrying out the bromation reaction in the presence of an organic compound causing two-phase separation in water in the bromation reaction of α-hydroxymethyl acrylate using hydrogen bromide.
